Welcome to GTAA & KOA Girls Softball

 

Green Tree Athletic Association (GTAA) is committed to teach the game in a fun, competitive and instructional atmosphere. We are focused on improving the ability of every player while enhancing the experience for every family. Our efforts create a passion for the game that we hope last a lifetime.

 

Players ages 5-15 have the opportunity to participate in softball through GTAA at a variety of levels. 

 

Softball programs we offer are:

 

 

**All divisions are determined by the player's birth date in accordance with USA Softball's Age Chart. A players "playing age" is determined by their actual age as of 8/31 or the given year. In addition, a calendar year in softball is considered fall/spring, with age eligible players moving up divisions in the fall. All players end up having 2 years (4 seasons fall/spring/fall/spring) in each division. 

 

 

Softball Season usually kicks off with practices starting mid to late March weather depending. Games usually start around mid April and run until the middle of June.

 

8U/10/12U traditionally play in the CVC league. 6U is TBD.

In agreement with DABA(Dormont) and CSYA(Castle Shannon) and in line with past practice, please note that our 10U, 12U, and 15U Fastpitch softball teams may play collectively under the KOA banner. Registration numbers will determine when this is necessary and is done in an effort to ensure all players from the Keystone Oaks communities have a place to play. When registration numbers are too low or in instances where we have too many players for one team but not enough for 2, an effort will be made to form teams jointly between boroughs and play as KOA teams. Team selection will be handled by the commissioners from all 3 boroughs.

 

In these instances players from Green Tree may be assigned to teams playing out of Dormont or Castle Shannon and vice versa, we may have some of their players come to us. For the past several seasons we have used this model to help ensure that youth softball players across the district have a team to play on. The goal always being to keep the kids playing.

 

Please know, it is GTAA’s first priority to keep all of our players here in Green Tree and every effort will be made to have players play in the community in which they live.

 

As in previous seasons, each family is required to volunteer four hours(2 shifts) of time at our concession stand during the baseball/softball season. Without parent volunteers we are unable to open and operate the stand. It is a community effort and we appreciate your cooperation.

 

After registration closes and prior to receiving a uniform, each family must submit a volunteer check for $80 ($20 per volunteered hour).

 

Checks can be made payable to Green Tree Athletic Association and mailed to PO Box 16532 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15242 , C/O Sade Smith, GAA Treasurer or they can be turned in when you come to pick up your uniform. Please write "Concession Stand" in the memo of the check. *Checks must be received before a uniform is distributed.

 

This check is separate from registration fees . The check will not be cashed upon receipt and will be destroyed at the end of the season if four hours of volunteer time have been fulfilled. The check will be cashed if the family does not fulfill the four hours of volunteer time.  

 

Families will be able to select their volunteer time slots and are not required to work the stand when their child is playing. We use SignUp Genius to manage the schedule and once games schedules are completed the SignUp Genius will be emailed to all baseball and softball families who registered for this season.

Green Tree Athletic Association offers coed soccer programs for boys and girls between the ages of 2-10.

Our home fields are Wilson Field (above the swimming pool), Hale Park, and Aiken Field.

Away games are played at Beggs Snyder(Dormont), Reihl Park (Castle Shannon), and Carnegie Park(Carlynton).

All divisions are determined by the players birth year. In accordance with US Youth Soccer, a player's birth year is used to determine the player's soccer age (U6,U8, U10, etc). A birth year is January 1 to December 31 of the year in which they were born.

In addition, a calendar year in soccer is considered fall/spring, with eligible players moving up divisions in the fall. All players end up having 2 years (4 seasons fall/spring/fall/spring) in each division. This may cause some confusion due to a players actual age at the start of the season, but rest assured your player will be properly placed according to these guidelines.
